Stonethic

Sanda was founded on values that set the respect for individuals and for the environment at the centre of its activity.

Today Sanda is a company operating in the entire manufacturing process of natural stones, from production to trading, and it is proud to foster and share its principles. Stonethic came to life for the need of sharing in total transparency the manufacturing process of our stones. Stonethic is a brand that identifies the stones we are producing, of which we follow step by step the whole process. We can guarantee the ethical nature of our stones.

History

Sanda was founded in 1980, within the family company founded in 1945. Since its origins, the family business developed and grew parallel to Italian jewellery industry. Over the years, the production was extended, passing from processing synthetic stones, to processing natural stones.Today Sanda, developing its manifacturing mission, is considered to be expert in the cut of natural stones, made in Italy and in South-East Asia.

In its 27 years activity, Sanda has improved its competence in direct purchasing of raw material in the countries of origin. Now the company has control over the whole process: from raw material, to processing and gems trading.

Materials

Raw materials selected by Sanda come from geographical areas pointed out after years of research. Since the beginning of its activity, Sanda was able to select and create privileged relations with mining consortium, taking care of the environmental impact of their workings. For such reason most of our materials come from Brazilian mines, Lavras. These are small size mines, that do not have a negative impact on communities living next to the working areas.

Despite the wide variety of stones offered by Sanda, we have always avoided importing raw materials from countries characterised by geo-political crisis or by a total neglect of human rights.

Production

In order to guarantee the ethical nature of our product, we constantly pay attention to all the steps of the working process, besides our control on the origin of materials. In this respect, we have developed cooperation projects with production poles in Vietnam, which led to the foundation of a big cutting factory. The stone processing is made in avant-garde facilities, using modern and safe machineries and with an organisation that respects the professionalism of the people employed; the whole process is made observing European working hours. Besides the production, we have created a professional training school that introduces young people to the cutting activity and that periodically updates the employees of the cutting factory. Apart from the work of our cutting factories, part of the production is managed by Chinese factories with which we have a consolidated collaboration and that we periodically visit to make sure that the organisation of the whole activity is not below the accepted standards. In any case, we can guarantee that our Chinese suppliers do not exploit minors' labour.

With the objective to integrate the Eastern production with a niche production able to re-discover the Italian crafts tradition, in the last year we have opened a highly specialised cutting factory in Italy. After a long research, we got to patent a totally robotized numeric control machine, which enables us to be the only one throughout Europe that can execute extremely precise cuts.

Between tradition and innovation, we carry on building our personal response to the challenges launched by the Made in Italy in these years.
